Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is a specialty of dentistry concerned with the performance and interpretation of diagnostic imaging used for examining the craniofacial, dental, and adjacent structures. Our department provides diagnosis for diseases of the teeth, maxillofacial deformities, complicated dental impactions, maxillofacial trauma, jaw lesions (cyst, neoplasms , fibro-osseous lesions and infection), salivary gland diseases and temporomandibular joint disorders. Preoperative assessment for dental implant placement is usually provided with dental CT. Oral and maxillofacial imaging includes dental cone beam CT, dental panoramic radiology, cephalometric imaging, intra-oral imaging (e.g. Bitewing, periapical and occlusal radiographs) in addition to special tests such as sialography.
We are equipped with state-of-the-art dental imaging systems of digital intraoral sensors, digital panoramic machines, CR for intraoral and extraoral radiographs including cephalometric, Chest P-A and TMJs, and dental cone beam CT to assist our hospital practitioners in providing the finest care for their patients. Our dental cone beam CT represents the most recent development of dental imaging providing detailed high quality three-dimensional images with 0.001 mm3 voxel. Its panoramic, cross-sectional, axial views and 3D images are ideal for oral and maxillofacial diagnosis and surgical planning, especially for dental implanting.
Our dental hospital has installed full hospital Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). Once a dental patient has radiographic, ultrasonographic, CT or photo images taken at any site, those images can be shared at each dental unit by every dentist in our dental hospital with interpretation (reading) of the diagnostic images by oral and maxillofacial radiologists. PACS enables  us to deliver timely and efficient access to patients diagnostic images, interpretation, and related information, thus facilitating patient care.
Local dental clinicians can send their patients data, including diagnostic images for diagnosis and treatment planning. The consulting is usually done free of charge and our staff of oral and maxillofacial radiologists are willing to discuss the data or patient status via telephone or internet during office hours. Also, local dentists not having dental CT can send their patients for dental CT examination. The dental CT will be analyzed with a special dental program, and the images with detailed interpretation by oral and maxillofacial radiologist will be sent back to the local dental clinician on the same day.
